Description

This is a bright Emission/Reflection nebula in the constellation Auriga.  It lies at a distance of around 10,000 light years.  The open cluster to the right of the nebula (sometimes called the Spider nebula) is called Stock 8.

The image is 5 hrs of Ha combined with about 2 hrs each of RGB.  It has been processed as HaR-HaG-HaB using weights of 85%/5%/10% using a combination of Photoshop, Maxim DL 5.03 and PixInsight.

Note also that I have tried to tame down the halo's around the bright stars but I suspect that some of this is real (see for example Rob Gendler's image of the same location at http://www.robgendlerastropics.com/IC417NMS.html ).
