Description

This image shows both IC63 (Casper the ghost?) and a portion of IC59 (the dimmer portions in the lower center).  These nebula are illuminated by the bright star Gamma Cassiopeia which lies outside of the field of view of this image.  This nebulosity lies at a distance of around 600 light years away.  IC63 has been referred to as a "cometary cloud".

These nebulae are part of a much larger area of nebulosity around Gamma Cassiepeia.
