M72 is a globular cluster in the constellation Aquarius. It lies at a distance of around 50,000 light years and spans a distance of around 100 light years. It is one of the more remote globular clusters, lies quite a way from the center of the galaxy, and is fairly unconcentrated. Interestingly enough, M72 is speeding towards the earth. M72 is generally overshadowed by its more impressive neighbor, M2. This image is pretty nice but it doesn't compare to the Hubble's image. |
